Qualcomm reveals Snapdragon X chip for AI PCs, new desktop system at CES 2025
- Qualcomm is lining up the Snapdragon X against Intel's ( INTC) Core 5 120U processor, which is also used to power mid-range PCs. Overall, the company says its Snapdragon X offers better performance per watt than the competing Intel chip and is better suited for AI tasks.
Qualcomm has unveiled its latest Snapdragon X series of chips, designed to enhance the performance of Windows laptops. The Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus chips are highlighted for their superior processing power, efficiency, and AI capabilities. These chips promise to deliver up to twice the CPU performance of competitors while consuming significantly less power, which could extend battery life in laptops. They also feature an advanced neural processing unit (NPU) for on-device AI tasks, enabling features like real-time translation, enhanced photo editing, and improved gaming experiences. The introduction of these chips is part of Qualcomm's strategy to challenge Intel and AMD in the PC market, with OEMs like Dell, HP, and Lenovo expected to incorporate these chips into their upcoming laptop models.
