According to a report by Pearson, India ranks above the global average in English proficiency, with Delhi leading the chart among Indian cities. The study, which evaluated English speaking skills across various countries, placed India in the "high proficiency" category. Delhi scored the highest among Indian cities, followed by Mumbai and Bengaluru. The report highlights that while India's overall proficiency is commendable, there is still a significant variation in English skills across different regions and demographics within the country. This ranking reflects the impact of English education, media, and the IT industry in urban areas, contributing to higher proficiency levels. However, the report also notes the need for continued improvement in rural areas and among less privileged groups to bridge the linguistic divide.
