Jay Hartzell has been appointed as the 11th president of Southern Methodist University (SMU), effective from July 1, 2022. Previously, Hartzell served as the dean of the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, where he was recognized for his leadership in enhancing the school's academic and research profile. His selection followed a comprehensive search process led by a committee of trustees, faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
