Dr. David J. Chard, currently the president of the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), has been appointed as the next president of Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas. His appointment was announced by SMU's Board of Trustees, and he will succeed Dr. R. Gerald Turner, who has been SMU's president for 30 years. Chard, who has led UTSA since 2017, will begin his tenure at SMU on July 1, 2024.
