- UW-La Crosse is naming its fieldhouse after retired university business officer Bob Hetzel, according to a release.
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL) has decided to name its fieldhouse after Bob Hetzel, a retired vice chancellor who served the institution for 37 years. Hetzel, who retired in 2021, was instrumental in the development of the university's athletic facilities, including the fieldhouse which opened in 2008. His contributions extended beyond physical infrastructure; he was known for his commitment to student-athletes, ensuring they had the resources needed to succeed both academically and athletically. The naming of the fieldhouse as the "Bob Hetzel Fieldhouse" was announced during a surprise event at the UWL Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony, celebrating his legacy and the significant impact he had on the university's sports programs.
