Sempra Energy Ranked Among Best Corporate Citizens -- SAN DIEGO, April 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

SAN DIEGO, April 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- For the fourth consecutive year, [ Sempra Energy ] (NYSE: [ SRE ]) has been recognized as one of CR Magazine's "100 Best Corporate Citizens."    

Sempra Energy earned high marks for the company's performance in seven categories: environment, climate change, human rights, employee relations, corporate governance, philanthropy and financials. 

Overall, Sempra Energy ranked 27th on CR Magazine's annual 2013 list.

CR Magazine evaluates companies' overall performance using social, financial and interrelationship metrics.  IW Financial, a Portland, Maine-based firm serving the environmental, social and governance investment community, gathered data for the rankings.  The publication seeks to advance corporate accountability and transparency through this research.  It provides investors, regulators, customers, suppliers and neighbors with the tools to make better decisions and judge companies and their behaviors.  

Last month, Sempra Energy was recognized for the second consecutive year as the energy industry's leader in sustainability by Target Rock Advisors, an organization comprised of experts in the utility industry who specialize in identifying and enhancing sustainable practices and advantages. Sempra Energy was selected from approximately 150 publicly traded U.S utilities and energy companies.

Additionally, Sempra Energy recently was named to the Ethisphere Institute's 2013 list of the "World's Most Ethical Companies."  Sempra Energy was one of 145 companies worldwide to receive the honor.
