WILLIAMSPORT, Md., March 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Prospective utility workers are invited to learn more about FirstEnergy Corp.'s (NYSE: FE) award-winning Power Systems Institute (PSI) at a public informational session on Tuesday, April 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Potomac Edison headquarters, 10802 Bower Ave., Williamsport, Maryland.
PSI recruiters from FirstEnergy, parent company of Potomac Edison, will provide enrollment materials and answer questions about the PSI programs planned at Pierpont Community & Technical College in Fairmont, W. Va., and Westmoreland County Community College (WCCC) in Youngwood, Pa.
The unique two-year coursework combines classroom learning with hands-on training, and offers technical courses in electrical fundamentals and circuit analysis along with practical skills training and general education classes. Classes will start in August. Students who complete the program earn an associate of applied science degree in electric utility technology and will be prepared to enter the workforce as line workers or substation electricians. Graduates may potentially be hired by Potomac Edison.
The focus of the PSI program is to create a pipeline of well-trained, well-educated utility workers who will perform their duties safely to help ensure reliable electric service. For more information about PSI, please contact FirstEnergy at (800) 829-6801 or go to [ www.firstenergycorp.com/psi ].
