SAN DIEGO, Nov. 17, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The Climate Registry and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) have selected Qualcomm Incorporated to participate in the organizations' joint Cool Planet Program. The program offers SDG&E customers incentives to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
"Qualcomm has been committed to energy efficiency and solving climate change for decades," said Gail Welch, senior manager of sustainability at Qualcomm. "Our experience has shown that investing in energy efficiency is a good business practice."
"Qualcomm's comprehensive energy efficiency efforts reduce 23 million kilowatt hours of energy and saves the company $3 million in costs annually. Since 2002, Qualcomm has reduced the carbon intensity of its operations by 14 percent per square foot of facility space," said Welch.
The company's energy efficiency efforts qualified Qualcomm to participate in SDG&E's Cool Planet Program which is administrated by The Climate Registry. The Cool Planet Program rewards customers who install significant energy efficiency projects by providing assistance with measuring, managing and reducing their carbon footprint. The Climate Registry is a non-profit collaboration between 41 states, 12 Canadian provinces & territories and six Mexican states.
