Centurion Executes Exploration Services Agreement; Commences Exploration Activities on Gold Properties in Aceh Province, Northe
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - July 15, 2010) - Centurion Minerals Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:CTN) ("Centurion", "the Company") is pleased to announce that it has executed an exploration services agreement with Indonesian partner, PT Sigma Mineral Exploration, to manage and implement exploration work programs with respect to its gold properties in Aceh Province, Northern Sumatra, Indonesia. An exploration team led by consulting geologist Mr. Dylan Jeffriess has commenced activities on the Banda Raya and Halimon properties - Mr. Jeffriess has over 12 years of mineral exploration experience in epithermal gold and porphyry gold/copper deposits.
The two 10,000 hectare properties (both of which have IUP mining exploration permits) are located adjacent to, and directly north and north east of, the East Asia Minerals' (EAS: TSX-V) Miwah epithermal gold discovery. A location map of these properties can be viewed at [ http://www.centurionminerals.com/i/maps/Banda-Raya-Halimon.jpg ].
The Company's progress to date has included the review and compilation of historical data from both the Banda Raya and Halimon properties, the sourcing and hiring of local geologists and field crew, securing helicopter transport for access to the projects, and locating space for operations offices in the project districts. Centurion's most recent aerial reconnaissance activities identified the presence of silica cliff formations on both properties, which are significant due to the visual similarity to those found to the south at the Miwah epithermal gold discovery. Recent property photos may be viewed here: [ http://www.centurionminerals.com/s/PhotoGallery.asp ].
Banda Raya Property
Regional geochemical reconnaissance by a previous operator in the 1990s identified multiple anomalies within the claim area including the Leuping and Simpang Tiga epithermal gold prospects. The operator recorded sample assays taken from outcropping quartz veins ranging from <0.01 to 15.35 g/t Au and up to 2000 ppm Cu. Additionally, results from mapping confirmed the presence of locally hydrothermally brecciated and high sulphidation altered volcanic units inferred to correlate with the Leuping Volcanic formation which hosts the neighbouring Miwah discovery and Banda Raya epithermal prospects.
An initial exploration program is being implemented to confirm the precise coordinates of previously identified epithermal prospects and recently viewed outcrop areas of interest, establish an exploration base camp, and commence geological mapping and rock geochemical sampling of the Leuping and Simpang Tiga prospects. Photogeological and radar-satellite imagery interpretations of the claim areas will also be carried out to enhance the understanding of the regional controls to the mineralization and focus on certain potential mineralized areas.
Halimon Property
Situated directly north of the Miwah epithermal gold discovery and west of the Banda Raya tenement, results from historical ground exploration work within this IUP license area in the 1990s identified four wide geochemical target areas in and around the Peut Sague volcano region.
Within this area, quartz veining and strongly advanced argillic altered rocks, including an inferred diatreme breccia, were found and interpreted to be of epithermal or porphyry origin. Lithostructural and petrologic interpretations conclude that the diatreme breccia in the area is a clear focus for exploration as it represents a potentially favorable host rock or hydrothermal feeder for local gold mineralization. Additionally, results from this work have outlined a structural corridor prospective for epithermal -- porphyry style mineralization located between the main Miwah prospect (approximately 2.5 kilometres south of the Halimon border) and the Peut Sague Volcano located 8 kilometres to the north of Miwah.
Geological and geochemical reconnaissance involving the collection of stream sediment, rock chip and rock float samples from the above areas will be conducted. Radar satellite images and their lithographical interpretations will also be conducted to assist in the identification of new geological target areas.
