GENEVA, SWITZERLAND--(Marketwire - Nov. 12, 2009) - Viterra Inc. (TSX:VT) (ASX:VTA) hosted an opening reception of its Geneva office today, welcoming European business leaders and government officials to the event. It was an opportunity for Mr. Mayo Schmidt, Viterra President and CEO, to introduce Viterra and present the company's mission to deliver healthy food ingredients from areas of surplus to world locations where populations and food requirements are rising steadily.

"We are very pleased to formally celebrate the opening of our Geneva office with senior officials, dignitaries, business and investment leaders. Geneva is a known focal point of foreign trade activities, and we are proud to join the city's esteemed businesses. Our European team has brought great value to Viterra, and today's successful event is a testament to the strong interest in Viterra's mission to improve food security by building stronger links between growers and destination customers around the world," said Mayo Schmidt, President and CEO, Viterra.

Viterra's marketing efforts through its Geneva office are an integral part of the company's strategy to expand its grain marketing and origination capabilities in major grain exporting countries in Europe and pursue opportunities within the value-added agri-business industry.

Mr. Christian Joerg, Vice-President & Managing Director, Europe, is responsible for implementing Viterra's growth platform and global arbitrage logistics in the region. This includes the development of Viterra's capacities in marketing of grains in the main importing countries of Europe, Middle East and Africa as well as building up a sourcing network for our core commodities in the Commonwealth of Independent States.

"With Viterra's acquisition of ABB Grain in Australia, our European office adds further value to the Company's geographical reach and diversity," said Mr. Joerg. "Population and income growth in emerging markets are leading to dramatic increases in global demand for core commodities. Viterra is a company that recognizes it has a critical role to play in providing essential ingredients for food products. It is an exciting time to be part of this growing company and to lead a diverse team based in Geneva."

Also speaking at the inaugural event was Canadian Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation, Ms. Roberta Santi, and Dr. Pierre-Francois Unger, State Councillor, in charge of the Department of Economy and Health of the canton of Geneva.
