The town of Cornelius denied a rezoning request that would have turned farmland into a business park.

The Cornelius Board of Commissioners unanimously rejected a zoning request from a business owner looking to establish a new business at the intersection of West Catawba Avenue and North 19th Street, citing concerns over traffic and the appropriateness of the location. The proposed business, a drive-thru restaurant, was opposed by local residents who argued that it would exacerbate existing traffic issues and not fit with the town's vision for the area. Despite the business owner's arguments about potential economic benefits, the board decided that the negative impacts on the community outweighed any potential advantages, leading to the denial of the zoning change request.
