Business owners say they are "petrified" as a main road leading to the M5 will have to close.

Business owners in the San Francisco Bay Area are expressing significant concerns over the upcoming closure of a section of Interstate 680, scheduled from March 15 to March 18, 2023, for a major pavement rehabilitation project. The closure, which will affect the highway between Koopman Road and Sunol Boulevard, is anticipated to severely disrupt local commerce, particularly during the busy St. Patrick's Day weekend. Owners like Mike and Mary Curta of the Turf Club and Jim and Michelle Leonard of the Purple Orchid Resort Inn are worried about the potential loss of customers and revenue, as the detour routes could deter visitors. The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has planned this closure to expedite the repair work, but local business owners are "petrified" about the economic impact, fearing it could be devastating for their establishments.
