A comprehensive review of the Youth Development Center settlement fund is being undertaken as some New Hampshire lawmakers say they have a lot of questions about exactly how the fund has been operating.

The New Hampshire House of Representatives has passed a bill to establish a $100 million settlement fund for victims of abuse at the former Youth Development Center (YDC) in Manchester, now known as the Sununu Youth Services Center. The fund aims to compensate survivors of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse that occurred at the facility from 1960 to 2019. The legislation, which received strong bipartisan support, awaits approval from the state Senate and the governor. If approved, the fund will be managed by an independent administrator, and victims can apply for compensation based on the severity of the abuse they endured. This settlement represents a significant step towards acknowledging and addressing the historical abuses at the YDC and providing some measure of justice and healing for the survivors.
