Today, the Detroit Coalition for Community Empowerment officially launched the "Stay in Detroit" initiative, accompanied by a comprehensive $15,000 resource guide designed to empower residents and bolster local economic growth. They're seeking opportunities they don't believe are available here. We want to change that narrative and create a pathway to help residents not only stay in Detroit, but thrive here."

The $15,000 guide, funded by a grant from the Knight Foundation, is designed to be that pathway. It's not simply a list of services, but a strategically curated collection of resources focused on three key pillars: financial literacy, career advancement, and small business support. Sections dedicated to financial literacy will cover topics like budgeting, credit repair, homeownership, and navigating the complexities of personal finance. Career advancement resources will include resume workshops, interview skills training, access to mentorship programs, and connections to local employers in growing industries like advanced manufacturing, tech, and healthcare. Perhaps most importantly, the guide will offer detailed support for aspiring entrepreneurs, including guidance on business plan development, securing funding (including microloans and grants), and navigating local regulations.

The initiative arrives amidst a continuing, but uneven, economic recovery in Detroit. While areas like downtown and Midtown have seen significant investment and growth, many neighborhoods still struggle with income inequality and limited access to opportunity.
