Indonesia plans to increase its imports from the United States in an effort to reduce its significant trade surplus with the country, according to Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati. Speaking at the APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting in San Francisco, she highlighted that Indonesia's trade surplus with the U.S. reached $38 billion in 2022, a situation she described as "not healthy" for bilateral relations. To address this imbalance, Indonesia aims to import more U.S. products, particularly in sectors like energy and agriculture, while also encouraging American investments in Indonesia. This strategy is part of a broader effort to strengthen economic ties and promote mutual growth between the two nations.
