Australia's financial intelligence agency AUSTRAC has told dormant crypto exchanges to withdraw their registrations or be flushed out over fears scammers could use the firms.

The Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) has initiated a compliance campaign targeting dormant cryptocurrency exchanges in Australia, aiming to ensure these platforms adhere to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) regulations. This move follows AUSTRAC's previous actions against non-compliant crypto businesses, including a significant fine imposed on the exchange Binance. The campaign focuses on exchanges that have ceased operations but still hold customer funds, requiring them to register with AUSTRAC, implement AML/CTF programs, and report suspicious activities.
