South Korea's finance minister Choi Sang-mok offered to resign, the ministry said on Thursday, as parliament was set to vote whether to impeach him.
South Korea's Finance Minister Choo Kyung-ho has offered to resign following a recent parliamentary election where the ruling People Power Party (PPP) suffered a significant defeat, losing 12 seats and failing to secure a majority. Choo, who has been in his position since May 2022, expressed his intention to step down to take responsibility for the electoral loss, although President Yoon Suk Yeol has yet to accept his resignation. Choo's offer comes amidst ongoing economic challenges, including high household debt and a slowing economy, which have been focal points of his tenure.
