MetLife on Wednesday reported a rise in its fourth-quarter profit as it earned more in premiums and investment income.
MetLife Inc reported a significant increase in its fourth-quarter profit on February 5, 2025, driven by robust growth in premiums and investment income. The company's adjusted earnings per share reached $2.17, surpassing the analysts' expectations of $1.90 per share. This performance was bolstered by a 26% rise in net investment income to $5.4 billion, attributed to higher interest rates and strong returns from private equity investments. Additionally, premiums, fees, and other revenues grew by 29% to $12.6 billion, reflecting strong demand for life insurance and employee benefits. However, the company also noted an increase in expenses due to higher policyholder benefits and claims, which rose to $13.1 billion from $10.5 billion the previous year. Despite these costs, MetLife's strategic focus on expanding its market presence and enhancing its product offerings contributed to its solid financial results.
