  • Fewer people quit their jobs in November while total job openings in the United States were down more than 800,000 from the same time in 2023, the Labor Department said in their latest report.

The U.S. job market showed resilience in November 2023, with job openings slightly increasing to 8.79 million from the previous month's revised figure of 8.73 million, according to the Labor Department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS). Despite this uptick, the number of job openings remains below the peak of 12 million seen in March 2022, indicating a cooling but still robust labor market. The data reflects a labor market that is adjusting to higher interest rates and economic uncertainties, yet continues to demonstrate strength with a ratio of 1.3 job openings per unemployed person. Additionally, the quits rate, which indicates worker confidence in finding new employment, stayed steady at 2.2%, suggesting that while workers are not leaving their jobs at a higher rate, they still feel secure in their employment prospects.
