Karnataka HC quashes electoral bonds case against Nirmala Sitharaman, former state BJP chief Kateel

The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a case against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Karnataka BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel, which alleged that they violated the Representation of People Act by collecting funds through electoral bonds during the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections. The court ruled that the allegations were baseless, as the electoral bonds scheme, introduced by the central government, allows for anonymous donations to political parties, and there is no legal prohibition against collecting funds through this method. The petition was filed by a social activist, but the court found no merit in the claims, stating that the bonds are a legitimate means of political funding.
