Arror, Kimarwer dams back in Adani-type deal

The Kenyan government has revived plans to construct the Arror and Kimwarer dams, previously stalled due to corruption allegations, through a new deal with a consortium led by the Italian firm CMC di Ravenna and South Korea's Daewoo Engineering and Construction. This partnership, reminiscent of the Adani Group's recent deal with the government, aims to address the country's water and energy needs. The project, which was initially part of a scandal involving billions of shillings, has been restructured to ensure transparency and efficiency. The dams are expected to generate 60 megawatts of electricity and irrigate 15,000 acres of land, significantly boosting agricultural productivity and power supply in the region. The government is now focusing on securing funding and ensuring that the project adheres to international standards to avoid past pitfalls.
