ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen's Kids Can Cook Program Receives Lighthouse Award

Unique program provides students a chance to sharpen their cooking skills

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 18, 2012) - ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen's Kids Can Cook program has been named the recipient of the Calgary Board of Education's Lighthouse Award for October, 2012. The award is given monthly by Calgary Board of Education Trustees to recognize the contributions of community partners in providing programming and services that enhance the educational opportunities for students.

The Kids Can Cook program was developed by ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen Chef Instructors in consultation with an ATCO professional home economist. Students visit ATCO's state-of-the-art Blue Flame Kitchen Learning Centre where a team of experts introduce them to basic cooking skills and kitchen safety in a fun and fully interactive format. As they rotate through a series of learning stations, students participate in hand-on activities and discussions tied to curriculum and skills development.

"We are honoured to have the ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen's Kids Can Cook program recognized by the Calgary Board of Education's Trustees for one of their Lighthouse Awards," said Bill Stephens, Senior Vice President & General Manager, ATCO Gas. "Designed to be educational, enjoyable and useful in everyday life, the Kids Can Cook program demonstrates another way that ATCO Gas is using its 100 years of natural gas experience to benefit communities in Alberta."
