READING, Pa., Oct. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) has been awarded the Western Pennsylvania Minority Supplier Diversity Council's "Economic Impact Award" and the Women's Business Enterprise Council of Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey's "Regional Corporation of the Year Award."  Both awards reflect FirstEnergy's ongoing commitment to supplier diversity and economic growth in the communities it serves.

In 2011, FirstEnergy spent more than $46 million with minority-owned businesses based in the Western Pennsylvania Minority Supplier Diversity Council's 27 county area.  In addition, the Company spent about $6 million with women-owned businesses.

FirstEnergy representatives serve on the Board of Directors of the Women's Business Enterprise Council of Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey, and also serve on the Certification Committee, which reviews applications and conducts visits to women-owned businesses seeking third-party certification.
