OMAHA, Neb.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--The Annual Investor Index [ survey ] series released by TD Ameritrade Holding Corporation (aTD Ameritradea) (NASDAQ: AMTD) found that Generation Y is [ taking responsibility for financial matters at an earlie ]r age than their predecessors and seeking a more collaborative approach when it comes to financial guidance.

"Millennials have come of age at a time when the economy has seen considerable turmoil and many of them witnessed their parentsa™ and grandparentsa™ financial struggles firsthand"

Sixty percent of those ages 22 to 34 say that they turn to friends, relatives and colleagues to stay informed about news and events shaping the economy and financial markets, compared to 43 percent of those in their parentsa™ (Boomer) generation and only 31 percent of those in their grandparentsa™ age (Mature) who felt the same.

And, if they cana™t get help from Mom and Dad or a trusted co-worker, these younger investors are not afraid to look to social media for guidance. This awisdom of crowdsa approach to finance could be the reason one in three (33 percent) Gen Y respondents selected the medium as a valued source of financial information.
