Softchoice Honored for Philanthropy at HP's Americas Partner Conference
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 6, 2010) - Softchoice Corporation (TSX:SO) is delighted to announce it has been honored with an HP Partners in Excellence Award for Corporate Philanthropy. At the annual Americas Partner Conference in Las Vegas, Softchoice received the 'Power of Technology Partners in Education' award in recognition for the Company's efforts to raise awareness and funding for computer literacy programs in North America and around the world. This is the first time HP has recognized top level partners who go above and beyond in using technology to advance social, environmental and health-related causes.
"I am very proud of what the Softchoice team has accomplished," said David MacDonald, President and CEO of Softchoice. "Whether building a new computer lab in Rwanda or rallying to the aid of the earth quake victims in Haiti through grass roots fundraising, our people have shown what's possible when technology and the compassion of the human spirit work in tandem."
The Power of Technology in Education Award celebrates partners that champion educational programs aimed at enhancing job skills and learning for young people as well as those participating in workforce redevelopment training. Through Softchoice Cares, the Company's employee-led philanthropic outreach program, Softchoice supports computer literacy programs at home and abroad. Most recently, a team of 11 employees undertook Softchoice's third mission to Africa to establish a new computer lab in the town of Gashora in Rwanda. Funds for the lab, including a satellite dish for internet access and a power generator, were raised entirely by Softchoice employees through various initiatives such as bake sales, karaoke nights, raffles and golf tournaments.
"Our passion for technology and for making our world a better place is something that unites all of us," added Mr. MacDonald. "By giving everyone at Softchoice the opportunity to give back, we're improving prospects for a brighter future among some of the world's poorest communities."
