OLDWICK, N.J.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--A.M. Best Co. has affirmed the financial strength rating (FSR) of A (Excellent) and issuer credit ratings (ICR) of "a" of Endurance Specialty Insurance Ltd. (Endurance) and its affiliates. Concurrently, A.M. Best has affirmed the ICR of "bbb" and debt ratings of the publicly traded parent, Endurance Specialty Holdings, Ltd (NYSE: ENH). A.M. Best also has affirmed the indicative ratings of "bb+" of Endurance Holdings Capital Trust I & II.The outlook for all ratings is stable. The above companies are domiciled in Bermuda. (See below for a detailed list of the companies and ratings.)

The ratings reflect Endurance's solid level of risk-adjusted capitalization, favorable historical operating performance and its reasonably diversified business profile. The ratings also consider the financial flexibility of Endurance and its affiliates due to their parent and their demonstrated ability of managing capital through various market cycles. Moreover, the ratings reflect the group's solid enterprise risk management framework, which supports its dynamic market focus and ability to quickly recognize and manage market opportunities in a prudent fashion.

Partially offsetting these positive rating factors is Endurance's exposure to large severe events and the potential for events in excess of modeled expectations. Further offsetting the company's strengths are the competitive conditions in the insurance and reinsurance markets and the challenges associated with managing the group's risks given the volatility of economic conditions. The outlook reflects A.M. Best's expectation that operating performance and risk-adjusted capitalization will continue to support the ratings at the current level given the targeted lines of business, conservative operating strategies and solid risk management framework.
