WHITE PLAINS, NY--(Marketwire - October 5, 2009) - Businesses in Pennsylvania's PPL Electric Utilities' (PPL) service territory can avoid electric rate increases ranging from 19 to 37 percent by partnering with one of America's leading energy services companies, ConEdison Solutions, to take advantage of current low market rates.

"Once price caps disappear at the end of 2009, businesses in the PPL territory will confront major increases in electricity spending," said Jorge Lopez, President and CEO of ConEdison Solutions. "ConEdison Solutions offers innovative buying options to help Pennsylvania businesses control budgets, manage risk, and use energy more efficiently."

The projected increases will go into effect in January 2010, once price controls are lifted on PPL rates.

In an April news release, PPL -- anticipating rate increases with the lifting of price caps -- encouraged its customers to "take advantage of lower-price offers that may become available from alternative suppliers to help them reduce their bills."

PPL and the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission estimate that prices will increase 19 percent for small businesses and 37 percent for mid-size businesses, in January 2010. Price increase projections for large businesses have not yet been confirmed.

By acting now to tap cheaper electricity supply from ConEdison Solutions, many businesses in PPL's service area are ensuring that they won't get hit with the large increases and that they benefit from commodity prices that are currently lower than they've been in years.

Recognized as one of the largest competitive electricity suppliers in the nation, and known for its stability and financial security, ConEdison Solutions provides competitively priced electricity and energy management solutions across the country, and is licensed to serve Pennsylvania's PPL customers. ConEdison Solutions has been in business for over a decade as a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc. (NYSE: [ ED ]), one of the country's largest investor-owned energy companies with a history dating to 1823 and with assets of approximately $30 billion.

"With all the suppliers available to Pennsylvania firms," said Mr. Lopez, "it is important to select one with a good reputation that you can trust. Over the past decade, our company has helped hundreds of businesses, ranging from large Fortune 500 companies to smaller regional and local firms better manage their energy costs."
