Active Power Named Winner in Austin Business Journal Going Green 2009 Awards
AUSTIN, Texas--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Critical backup power systems inventor and manufacturer Active Power, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACPW), today announced it was named a winner in the Austin Business Journal Going Green Awards program, earning top honors in the program's Green Innovation category. The company was recognized for its energy efficient and green flywheel based UPS (uninterruptible power supply) system and how the technology continues to help its customers reduce their impact on the environment.
"Award winners we selected for this year's program represent local companies and individuals who have embraced the green movement and take a lead role in protecting the environment," said Lyn Chasteen, publisher for Austin Business Journal. "We encourage other local organizations to stop and take a look at the program's award winners and finalists to see what green initiatives they have in place. We hope this will inspire them to take action."
Winners were selected by Austin Business Journal editorial staff based on an organization's green program or achievement, how the program or achievement differs from others in its field and results of that initiative. Nominees, winners and finalists were recognized in the Going Green Awards supplement in the Jan. 16-22, 2009, issue of the Austin Business Journal.
"We are honored to be selected as a winner for the Austin Business Journal Going Green awards program, particularly among several well known local businesses," said Jim Clishem, president and CEO, Active Power. "As market acceptance for flywheel systems continues to grow so will end users' energy savings. When we reduce the amount of power needed from the grid, we buy the world more time to truly embrace and deploy sustainable energy systems. This is evidenced by the fact Active Power has saved customers more than $55 million in energy costs and eliminated more than 432,000 tons of CO2 emissions."
