Senator Josh Hawley introduced a bill aimed at banning stock trading by members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children, arguing that it's a conflict of interest for lawmakers to trade stocks while having access to sensitive information. In an interview with ABC7, Hawley emphasized the need for transparency and trust in government, stating that members of Congress should not be able to profit from their positions. He highlighted recent cases where members of Congress were investigated for potentially using insider information for stock trades.
