Myrtle Beach Murder: Man Charged in Shooting Death
Locale: UNITED STATES

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 24, 2026) - Maurice Tyrone Chisholm, 28, was formally charged today with murder in connection with a shooting that occurred Monday evening in Myrtle Beach. The victim, identified as 36-year-old David Allen Reynolds, was found deceased at the scene. The incident has sent ripples of concern through the typically vibrant tourist city, prompting discussions about public safety and a perceived increase in violent crime.
According to a press release from the Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD), officers responded to a call reporting shots fired in the area of Carver Street and Oak Avenue at approximately 8:17 PM on Monday, March 23rd, 2026. Upon arriving, first responders discovered Reynolds suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Reynolds was pronounced dead at the scene.
Chisholm was apprehended shortly after the shooting and is currently being held at the J. Frank Rawls Detention Center without bond. Police have not released details regarding a potential motive, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. Sources close to the investigation indicate that detectives are exploring several avenues, including a possible dispute between Reynolds and Chisholm.
This incident marks the third reported homicide in Myrtle Beach this month, raising alarm among residents and local business owners. While Myrtle Beach consistently attracts millions of visitors annually, maintaining a safe environment for both tourists and year-round residents has become an increasingly pressing challenge. Last year, the city experienced a 15% increase in reported violent crimes compared to 2024, a trend that authorities are actively attempting to reverse.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragic event and extend our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Reynolds," stated Myrtle Beach Police Chief Susan Davis in a public statement released earlier today. "The MBPD is committed to thoroughly investigating this case and bringing those responsible to justice. We are also intensifying our efforts to address the root causes of violence in our community through proactive policing strategies, community outreach programs, and collaboration with other law enforcement agencies."
The city council is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting next week to discuss the recent surge in crime and potential solutions. Topics on the agenda include increased funding for the police department, expansion of neighborhood watch programs, and investment in social services aimed at preventing violence. Some community members are also calling for stricter gun control measures, while others advocate for increased job opportunities and educational resources to address underlying socioeconomic issues.
Reynolds was a long-time resident of Myrtle Beach and worked as a chef at a popular seafood restaurant on the boardwalk. He was described by colleagues as a dedicated and hardworking individual who was well-liked by both customers and staff. A GoFundMe page has been established by Reynolds' family to help cover funeral expenses.
Chisholm has a prior arrest record, including a misdemeanor charge for simple assault in 2023. Details of the previous case are currently being reviewed by investigators. Legal experts suggest that Chisholm will likely face a lengthy prison sentence if convicted of murder. The Horry County Public Defender's Office has been appointed to represent him.
The investigation remains active, and the MBPD is urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the Myrtle Beach Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-888-MYRTLE-TIP. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
