The developer of a proposed $300 million recycling plant in Pennsylvania says Trump-imposed tariffs helped kill the project.
The planned $300 million manufacturing plant in Pennsylvania by GFG Alliance, aimed at producing aluminum products for the automotive, building, and packaging industries, has been canceled due to financing issues exacerbated by U.S. tariffs on aluminum and steel imports. The project, which was expected to create 600 jobs in the Johnstown area, faced challenges after the Trump administration imposed a 10% tariff on aluminum imports in 2018, leading to increased costs and difficulties in securing financing. GFG Alliance had hoped to utilize recycled aluminum from its proposed $150 million recycling facility in Fairless Hills, but the combination of tariffs and financing hurdles ultimately led to the abandonment of the Johnstown plant project.
