UK finance minister wants lower taxes, less regulation

British finance minister Rachel Reeves said the country's finances were now in order following her October budget, and her future instincts were for lower taxes and less regulation.
UK Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt has expressed his desire to lower taxes and reduce regulations in the UK, aiming to foster economic growth and enhance the country's competitiveness. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Hunt highlighted the need for a "more lightly regulated, lower tax economy" to attract businesses and stimulate economic activity. He acknowledged the challenges posed by high taxes and regulatory burdens, which he believes deter investment. Hunt's comments come in the context of ongoing economic recovery efforts post-Brexit and amidst global economic uncertainties, with a particular focus on making the UK an attractive destination for international business. However, he also noted that any tax cuts would need to be balanced against the necessity of reducing the national debt, indicating a cautious approach to fiscal policy adjustments.
