Sanjay Malhotra, the current Revenue Secretary, has been appointed as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), succeeding Shaktikanta Das whose term ends on December 31, 2024. Malhotra, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1990 batch of the Rajasthan cadre, has a rich background in finance and economic policy, having served in various key governmental roles including as the Secretary in the Department of Financial Services and as Chairman of the Public Enterprises Selection Board. His appointment comes at a crucial time as the RBI navigates through global economic challenges, inflation control, and financial stability. Malhotra's experience in revenue management and financial services is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the central bank's policies.
