In New Orleans, a group of business owners, led by Troy and Tracy Duhon of the bar NOLA Spaces, initiated a compassionate effort to help low-level offenders by posting their bail before Thanksgiving. This initiative, which began in 2019, aimed to reunite families for the holiday by covering bonds for non-violent crimes like traffic violations or minor drug offenses. The Duhons, along with other local business owners, raised funds to bond out 15 individuals, providing them with a chance to spend the holiday with their loved ones. This act of kindness not only offers temporary freedom but also aims to reduce the likelihood of these individuals reoffending by giving them a sense of community support and hope. The project has been supported by contributions from the community, highlighting a collective effort to make a positive impact during the holiday season.
