FirstEnergy Foundation Contributes $10,000 to the American Red Cross of the Chesapeake Region -- WILLIAMSPORT, Md., Nov. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

WILLIAMSPORT, Md., Nov. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The FirstEnergy Foundation has contributed $10,000 to the American Red Cross of the Chesapeake Region to support relief efforts for Maryland residents affected by Hurricane Sandy.  FirstEnergy (NYSE: [ FE ]) is the parent company of the Potomac Edison Company.

Hurricane Sandy slammed into the Northeast on October 29, packing winds exceeding 80 mph and dropping up to more than a foot of heavy wet snow in the higher elevations in Western Maryland.

"Hurricane Sandy brought unprecedented damage to the Northeast, including portions of our service area," said Jim Fakult, regional president of Potomac Edison.  "We're glad to provide assistance to the American Red Cross of the Chesapeake Region so it can help those who need it."

The FirstEnergy Foundation also will match all gifts employees make to the Red Cross during this crisis.
