Medistem to Give Keynote Address at International Gathering of Romanian Leaders
SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 12, 2012) - Medistem Inc. (
The meeting, which is a week-long celebration of Romanian cultural and scientific accomplishments, has featured Romanian luminaries including former Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea, Minister of Romanian Culture and Art Ion Caramitru, and History of Religion Scholar Mircea Eliade as keynote speakers.
"We are proud of the work Dr. Thomas Ichim is performing in the area of adult stem cells, having led the company Medistem from discovering a new stem cell to clinical trials within the short span of 4 years," said Dumitru Rachitan, President of the Romanian Cultural Association. "Given that this is the only stem cell company that has received endorsement of the Orthodox Church, we are eager to hear how the company has circumvented ethical issues associated with stem cells, and reached its milestone of beginning to use stem cells in patients."
Medistem's CEO, Thomas Ichim, will present his work in Romanian, in a talk entitled "Endometrial Regenerative Cells: A Journey from Discovery to Patients."
"As a second-generation Romanian, I am proud to have been chosen by my scientific peers in Romania to present our work at this prestigious event," said Ichim. "We hope that these beginning interactions will lead to collaborations and possibly expansion of our clinical programs."
Currently Medistem has two ongoing clinical programs, in heart failure and critical limb ischemia, using its universal donor stem cell, the Endometrial Regenerative Cell.
