PHILADELPHIA, April 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Lincoln Financial Group (NYSE: [ LNC ]) today announced that Adam G. Ciongoli will join the company as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, effective May 7, 2012. In his role, Ciongoli, 43, will oversee all activities for the Law, Compliance, Corporate Secretary and Federal Relations departments of the company, as well as provide strategic counsel to the Board of Directors and senior management team. He will report directly Dennis R. Glass, president and CEO of Lincoln Financial Group, and he will also sit on the company's Senior Management Committee.

"Adam is an accomplished legal professional with deep experience as a public company general counsel, along with possessing an extensive background in insurance industry and securities law, regulation and compliance," said Glass. "He has a successful track record of leading highly effective teams at large, multinational corporations and in senior positions in government. Ciongoli joins Lincoln Financial from Willis Group Holdings plc, where he served as group general counsel and secretary. Prior to Willis, Ciongoli served as senior vice president and general counsel for Time Warner Europe. He has also served as the counselor to the Attorney General of the United States; as chief counsel to the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution, Federalism and Property Rights; and as law clerk to United States Supreme Court Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr. 

Ciongoli holds a J.D. magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center and a bachelor's degree in History from the University of Pennsylvania.
