WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Nov. 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- BB&T (NYSE: BBT) announced today that Luis Lobo has been named Multicultural Markets manager.

Lobo is a 28-year veteran of BB&T, and previously served as regional president in the Washington, D.C. market.

Lobo, a native of Costa Rica, serves as chairman of the board of the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, chairman of the board of advisors for the Mid-Atlantic Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is a 10-year faculty member of both the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking and previously The BB&T Banking School at Wake Forest University. He was named Greater D.C. Banker of the Year by the Mid-Atlantic Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2011. Previously, Lobo served as assistant treasurer on the Greater Washington Board of Trade and is the author of the book, "It is Your Attitude."

He is a 1983 graduate of Belmont Abbey College with a bachelor's degree in economics and in 1996 received his MBA from Campbell University. He received his degree with honors in 1998 from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Delaware and completed the Advanced Management Program at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1999.
