Numsa demands immediate government action to halt ArcelorMittal's planned closure of its Long Steel Business, warning of severe repercussions for South Africa's manufacturing sector

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has called on the South African government to intervene in order to prevent ArcelorMittal South Africa (Amsa) from closing its plants, which would result in significant job losses. Amsa, the largest steel producer in the country, has announced plans to close its long steel operations in Newcastle and Vereeniging due to financial difficulties, potentially affecting 3,500 jobs.
