Complaints about BYD , over its move to offer free smart driving features across most of its line-up have flooded a prominent Chinese auto quality platform, many from customers who said they had overpaid for their cars.
Following the launch of BYD's new smart electric vehicle (EV) model, the Yangwang U8, at the 2024 Beijing auto show, there has been a significant increase in consumer complaints on the Chinese consumer portal, the Black Cat platform. These complaints, which surged to 370 in the week following the launch, primarily focus on issues like high pricing, poor customer service, and difficulties in obtaining refunds. The Yangwang U8, priced at 1.098 million yuan ($152,600), has been criticized for its cost, especially when compared to other luxury EVs like the Tesla Model X. Additionally, some consumers have expressed frustration over the lack of transparency regarding the vehicle's features and the overall purchasing experience, highlighting a broader challenge for BYD as it aims to expand its market share in the premium EV segment.
