NFL Season Grades: Miami Dolphins Reign Supreme
Locale: UNITED STATES

NFL Team Report Cards: 2026 Season - A League of Contrasts
As the confetti settles on the 2026 NFL season, it's time to dissect the performance of each team. These annual report cards aren't just about wins and losses; they're a holistic assessment encompassing coaching acumen, roster construction effectiveness, and, of course, on-field results. The gap between contenders and rebuilders seems to be widening, with a clear delineation forming between teams capable of sustained success and those mired in perpetual mediocrity. This year, the Miami Dolphins soared to the top, while the Pittsburgh Steelers plummeted to the bottom, highlighting the stark contrasts within the league.
Miami Dolphins: A+ - The Standard Bearers The Dolphins weren't merely good in 2026; they were dominant. Tua Tagovailoa's continued evolution into an elite quarterback is the cornerstone of their success. His decision-making, accuracy, and ability to read defenses have reached new heights. Critically, Mike McDaniel's offensive scheme remains a logistical nightmare for opposing defensive coordinators. The speed and versatility of the Dolphins' receiving corps, combined with a surprisingly effective run game, make them incredibly difficult to stop. The team's front office deserves credit for consistently identifying and developing talent, creating a roster with impressive depth at key positions. They've established themselves as the team to beat heading into 2027.
The Contenders (B+ to B-) Teams like the Kansas City Chiefs (B+) are still potent forces, largely due to the enduring brilliance of Patrick Mahomes. However, even Mahomes can't single-handedly carry a team, and the Chiefs showed vulnerabilities that weren't present in previous seasons. The Philadelphia Eagles (B) and San Francisco 49ers (B) both made the playoffs, but failed to reach their full potential. For the Eagles, defensive inconsistencies were a recurring theme, while the 49ers were hampered by injuries and an inability to maintain consistent offensive production. The Baltimore Ravens (B) continue to be a strong defensive team, but Lamar Jackson needs more reliable receiving options to truly unlock their offensive potential. The Buffalo Bills (B-) and Cincinnati Bengals (B-) are stuck in a frustrating middle ground. Josh Allen and Joe Burrow are undeniably talented, but injuries and supporting cast weaknesses are holding them back from championship contention. The Detroit Lions (B-) took a step back after a promising 2025, exposing weaknesses on the defensive side of the ball.
The Middle of the Pack (C+ to C-) Several teams find themselves in the murky middle ground, lacking the star power to contend but also avoiding complete disaster. The Dallas Cowboys (C+) continue to be a source of disappointment for their fanbase, consistently underachieving despite having a talented roster. The Los Angeles Rams (C+) remain competitive, but lack the firepower to challenge the league's elite. The Jacksonville Jaguars (C) and Houston Texans (C) are both young teams showing flashes of promise, but consistency remains a major issue. The New Orleans Saints (C) are undergoing a transition period, and it's evident on the field. The Denver Broncos (C-), Minnesota Vikings (C-), and Atlanta Falcons (D+) are all rebuilding, and face significant challenges in the coming years.
The Struggle is Real (D+ to D-) The bottom of the league is a bleak landscape. Teams like the Las Vegas Raiders (D+) and Washington Commanders (D) are perpetually stuck in mediocrity, lacking a clear vision for the future. The New York Jets (D) had high hopes with Aaron Rodgers' return, but injuries and poor play derailed their season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (D) are in a steep decline, while the Indianapolis Colts (D-) and Los Angeles Chargers (D-) continue to squander potential. The Tennessee Titans (D-) are showing their age and lack the talent to compete with younger teams.
The Basement Dwellers (E & F) At the very bottom, we find teams facing an existential crisis. The Chicago Bears (E), Arizona Cardinals (E), New England Patriots (E), New York Giants (E), and Carolina Panthers (E) are all in desperate need of a complete overhaul. But the most damning grade goes to the Pittsburgh Steelers (F). Despite the continued presence of veteran coach Mike Tomlin, the Steelers' roster is outdated, lacking talent at key positions. The team is falling further and further behind the rest of the league, and a major rebuild is desperately needed. Tomlin's inability to address the roster deficiencies raises serious questions about the team's long-term future.
