Tesla launched a revamped version of the Model Y, its best-selling car, in China on Friday, hoping that upgraded features such as heated seats and a better acoustics system will help it regain market share taken by rivals such as Xiaomi .
Tesla Inc. has launched a revamped version of its Model Y in China, priced at 249,900 yuan ($35,938), aiming to boost sales in the world's largest auto market. This new version, known as the "Juniper" project, features minor design tweaks and improvements in manufacturing efficiency. The move comes as Tesla faces increasing competition from local electric vehicle makers like BYD, Nio, and Xpeng, who have been aggressively cutting prices and introducing new models. The updated Model Y is part of Tesla's strategy to maintain its market share in China, where it has been producing vehicles at its Shanghai Gigafactory since 2019. The pricing strategy also reflects Tesla's broader approach to make electric vehicles more accessible amid a price war in the EV sector.
