DSM's sustainable supply chain management recognized

HEERLEN, NETHERLANDS--(Marketwire - Nov 28, 2012) -

Royal DSM, the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company, has been awarded the Sustainable Supply Chain Award 2012 for its responsible way of managing its supply chain. This is the fourth award this month that recognizes DSM's sustainability efforts, its transparency and its leadership. The prize was awarded by the VBDO, the Dutch Association of Investors for Sustainable Development. Earlier this month, DSM won three prestigious awards for its integrated and transparent reporting (De Kristal 2012, FD Henri Sijthoff award and Prix-de-Mazars).

The Sustainable Supply Chain Award 2012 was presented to DSM on 27 November in Amstelveen, after DSM was ranked in first place in the Responsible Supply Chain Benchmark 2012 survey carried out by VBDO. The jury selected DSM as the winner because its robust and transparent supplier sustainability program, its focus on sustainability aspects such as environmental issues throughout the value chain, its ongoing dialogue with stakeholders and the way DSM recognizes sustainability as one of its business drivers.

Feike Sijbesma, CEO and Chairman of the DSM Managing Board, commented: "This award, and the three awards we received for our integrated reporting earlier this month, again recognizes our sustainability efforts. For DSM, sustainability is at the core of our business, with People, Planet and Profit of equal importance. Managing our suppliers on sustainability topics, and helping them to deliver sustainable materials and solutions, is fulfilling for our suppliers as well. This award is as much recognition for their dedicated approach and commitment to sustainability as it is for DSM."

The VBDO supply chain benchmark is a comparative investigation among 40 Dutch publicly listed companies, aiming to inform stakeholders on responsible supply chain management. These stakeholders are company executives, investors, academia, NGOs, government and society at large.
