ATCO Pipelines Seeks Public Input on Urban Pipeline Replacement Project

Project will move high-pressure transmission of natural gas out of Calgary and Edmonton neighbourhoods

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 21, 2012) - ATCO Pipelines today launched a public information and consultation program as part of its Urban Pipeline Replacement (UPR) Project. The program will reach out to citizens in Calgary and Edmonton to inform them of the UPR Project and seek their input.

If approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC), the UPR Project will shift the high-pressure transmission of natural gas out of densely populated areas in Calgary and Edmonton into the provincially-designated Transportation/Utility Corridors that surround the cities.

"Over the years, urban development has overgrown the network of high-pressure natural gas pipelines that were originally built more than a half-century ago on what was the outskirts of Edmonton and Calgary," said Brendan Dolan, Senior Vice President & General Manager, ATCO Pipelines. "Having high-pressure pipelines operating next to schools, homes and businesses is an unnecessary risk that ATCO Pipelines is fighting to change."

For ATCO, the safety of our communities is a priority. By building a network of new, modern pipelines in these corridors, the UPR Project will reduce the risk of an incident by up to 95% as well as provide the additional capacity to meet the growing demand for natural gas in these two cities.

Public participation is a critical component of the UPR Project submission to the AUC. ATCO Pipelines is asking the public to provide their input by visiting the website ([ www.atcopipelines.com/upr ]), calling 1-855-802-7546 or attending one of the Open Houses taking place in each city.

ATCO Pipelines is part of the ATCO Group of Companies.
