Canine Companionsa inaugural Volunteer Leadership Conference, being held August 23-25 in Santa Rosa, California, honors and provides educational information to the organizationas 3000 volunteers.

Canine Companions breeds and trains assistance dogs and ensures the longevity of companion partnerships by carefully matching a dogas skills with the needs of the disabled person. Canine Companions trains four types of assistance dogs to master over 40 specialized commands: Service Dogs, Skilled Companions, Hearing Dogs, and Facility Dogs. After completing training, the dogs are teamed with a graduate during an intensive two week training period.

Canine Companions for Independence is the largest non-profit provider of trained assistance dogs with five regional training centers across the country.
