American Express Appoints Toby Eduardo Redshaw as Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer

NEW YORK--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--American Express Company (NYSE: AXP) today announced the appointment of Toby Eduardo Redshaw, 48, to the position of executive vice president and chief information officer, effective January 2011. He will report to Stephen Squeri, Group President, American Express Global Services, which includes the companya™s Technologies, World Service, Global Business Services and Global Credit Administration organizations. Mr. Squeri had served as CIO since May, 2005, in addition to heading Global Services since the group was formed in October 2009.

As head of American Expressa™ global Technologies organization, Mr. Redshaw will serve on the companya™s Business Operating Committee, and will be responsible for further strengthening American Expressa™ position in the strategic use of technology.

He joins American Express from Aviva in London, where he had served as Global Chief Information officer since 2008. In this role, he unified and transformed Avivaa™s global approach to technology. Previously, Mr. Redshaw served as Corporate Vice President for Innovation, Data, Enabling Platforms and Architecture Services (I.D.E.A.S.) with Motorola, Inc., and before that was General Manager of a Silicon Valley start-up that provided software-as-a-service and supply-chain solutions. During a 17-year career at FedEx, he progressed through a series of customer service, business and information technology roles in business units globally.
