Oghenochuko Ojiri is the first person to be charged with the specific offence, the Met Police say.
An art dealer named Nazem Ahmad was charged by the U.S. Department of Justice with evading economic sanctions and engaging in terrorist financing, as announced on April 19, 2023. Ahmad, who is believed to be in Lebanon, allegedly used his art business to launder money and support Hezbollah, a designated terrorist organization. The charges include conspiracy to defraud the U.S., violations of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, and money laundering. The U.S. Treasury Department also imposed sanctions on Ahmad and his network, which spans multiple countries and involves the trade of valuable artworks.
