The former CEO of Magellan Diagnostics pleaded guilty on Monday to a criminal charge related to a malfunction in the company's lead-testing devices that produced inaccurately low results for tens of thousands of patients.
Amy Winslow, the former CEO of Magellan Diagnostics, has pleaded guilty to charges related to a defective lead testing device that produced inaccurate results, potentially affecting thousands of children's health assessments. The device, which was used to test for lead poisoning, failed to detect high levels of lead in blood samples due to a known defect that was not disclosed to the public or the FDA. This issue persisted from 2013 to 2017, despite the company's awareness of the problem. Winslow's plea includes a $100,000 fine and up to one year in prison, with sentencing scheduled for June 27. The case has raised significant concerns about the oversight of medical devices and the ethical responsibilities of corporate leaders in ensuring product safety.
