In a first for the National Football League, two private equity firms, Ares Management and Arctos Partners, have clinched separate deals to buy minority stakes in two franchises. Ares is investing in the Miami Dolphins while Arctos Partners is taking a chunk of the Buffalo Bills.
The NFL has granted the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills permission to negotiate with potential head coaching candidates from teams still in the playoffs, such as the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Minnesota Vikings. This decision comes as both teams are in the process of filling their head coaching vacancies following the dismissal of their previous coaches, Brian Flores by the Dolphins and Sean McDermott by the Bills. The league's move allows these teams to conduct interviews with coordinators and other coaching staff from playoff teams, even though typically, such interviews are restricted until after the divisional round of the playoffs. This exception aims to expedite the hiring process for the Dolphins and Bills, ensuring they can secure their preferred candidates without delay.
