READING, Pa., May 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Several vandalism incidents are creating service reliability issues for Met-Ed customers and safety concerns for Met-Ed employees.  The vandalism, which is occurring at Met-Ed substations, has been reported to law enforcement agencies and the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission.

"Providing safe, reliable service to our customers is our top priority," said Met-Ed Regional President Dave Karafa.  "To help prevent similar incidents from causing service concerns or interruptions we are asking customers to report any suspicious behavior they see around our facilities.  In addition to the equipment damage, employees are also at increased safety risks due to copper grounds being removed from our equipment.  Met-Ed is working with law enforcement and Crime Stoppers and we will not tolerate malicious acts that put our customers and employees at risk."

Customers can report any suspicious behavior by calling Met-Ed at 1-800-545-7741.  Customers are also encouraged to call their local police to report suspicious activity around Met-Ed facilities, including substations.

Met-Ed is a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE).  Met-Ed serves approximately 540,000 customers in 15 Pennsylvania counties.
